There are plenty of ants in the tree—Jet Black ant

The Jet black ant (Lasius fuliginosus) belongs to the ant family and is commonly found in the forest, as the Red wood ant. However, Jet blank ants build a unique type of nest—they build a cardboard-like nest using materials such as chewed wood, saliva and mushrooms.

Jet blank ants can create huge colonies of up to two million inhabitants! Jet blank ants have the ability to take control of whole trees and they leave pheromone paths along which they travel. Also, they like to live in dry areas such as forest edges or near roads.

Jet blank ants have a black, shiny torso with yellowish legs and are typically 5 millimeters long. Typically, the body length of worker ants ranges from 4 to 6 millimeters and the body length of queen ants ranges from 6 to 7 millimeters.
